Update #3

Yes, it’s the dome once again. Apparently I just can’t stop working on this scene. Originally it was meant to be used in the Unreal 2004 engine, but it’s looking a little out of date recently. Basically all the models got revamped into a more coherent and smooth style and the arches are a little more dynamic and structurally sound. Since I basically changed the models and added in a few things, the textures need to be redone for the most part. I found some awesome reference images from the Saadian Tombs and it should be done within the week.

In the meantime, marshmallow dome:

Update #2

My friend Max Bickley modeled this ship a while back with the intent to composite it into a live action sequence. He wasn’t satisfied with the overall aesthetics of the ship that he had done himself so I volunteered to texture it for him. The ship itself is used to transport cargo from place to place (basically like a sci-fi truck) and I wanted to give it some character through the texture. To accomplish this overall look, I took reference from Battlestar Galactica and especially the Serenity mule. This was my first attempt at doing painted metal and it was a challenge at first, but I kind of got the hang of it. Overall I think it turned out fairly well and eventually, Max will composite it into a fully CG space scene.

Check out the sweet bumper stickers:

Update #1

This was one of my projects I chose to do for an Independent study. I chose to do an abstract composition to explore color and shape. This turned out to be immensely more difficult than I had planned and I still think it could use some tweaking. Over the course of 3 weeks I learned how to simulate cloth using nCloth in Maya, animate textures as well as objects and lighting a scene using an HDR. Not to mention, I learned a hell of a lot about mia_material_X and the awesome things it can do.

All of the textures in this scene were created procedurally and the original intent was a time based piece to music that ended up being 40seconds long. (final version to come… here is a teaser)
